GRAINGER IPAD APP
Search & Product Details Redesign
RESEARCH | IDEATION & CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT | UX DESIGN | INTERACTION DESIGN

Phase 1 - Research & Foundation
The redesign was a minimum marketable feature approach (MVP). I worked closely with cross-disciplinary teams to develop & prioritize scope for each phase of the project, created timelines, and clarified the end vision.

The old design had non-intuitive filter interactions in the search experience and led to customer frustration. Also, product results were not optimized for landscape layout, which is most frequently used by iPad users.

The new design was optimized for both landscape and portrait orientation. It improved filter interactions and overall information hierarchy to help customers quickly & easily find the right products.

Phase 2 - End Phase
The new design enabled Grainger to enhance its cross-sale capabilities by bundling a main product with required accessories.

During the ideation phase, I identified a customer pain point where required accessories were easily missed by users. As a result, I grouped the main product and required accessories together as a bundle, and refined the design based on research feedback. Currently the design is implemented across all mobile apps.

The goal at the end of the phase was to display search results and product details side by side. This design allowed users to compare multiple products at the same time. Users could expand product details panel to full screen when desired. Designed with iOS adoptive capability in mind, the same product results and product details layouts could be scaled down on an iPhone screen.
